Landscape Gardeners Near Norwich: Areas We Cover

Norfolk village garden patio lawn

Hilton & Green Landscaping is a landscape gardening company working in Norwich and the surrounding Norfolk villages. If you've been looking for landscape gardeners near Norwich, this page explains where we travel, what the gardens are like in each part of the area, and how to check we can reach you.

Where we work

We cover Norwich itself and the towns and villages around it. That includes the city centre and the older terraced streets, the suburbs with their longer back gardens, and the rural plots further out where access and drainage often matter more than anything else.

Our full list is on the Areas we cover page, and if you're not sure whether you fall inside it, the quickest answer is a phone call.

Norwich city and the inner suburbs

Gardens in the city tend to be narrow, walled or fenced, and often overlooked. Access can be tight, which matters when you're moving soil, slabs or turf. We're used to working through side gates and front-to-back routes, and we plan the job around what can actually be carried in and out.

Areas like Thorpe Hamlet, Golden Triangle, Eaton, Mile Cross, Catton and Heigham all have their own quirks. Older properties often have level changes, brick boundary walls and mature trees that need thinking about before any design work starts.

The ring of villages

Outside the city we work in places such as Wymondham, Hethersett, Cringleford, Drayton, Taverham, Hellesdon, Costessey, Sprowston, Rackheath, Poringland, Framingham Earl, Brundall, Blofield, Acle, Long Stratton and the villages in between. Plots here are usually bigger, with more lawn, more boundary fencing and more scope for a full redesign.

Further out across Norfolk

We also take work further afield when the project suits it. That might be a larger garden design, a run of fencing, or a driveway on a rural property. Travel is part of the conversation when we quote, so you'll know where you stand before anything is booked.

What landscape gardeners near Norwich get asked to do most

The jobs vary by area, but the same handful of requests come up again and again.

Patios. Small city courtyards, or larger seating areas in village gardens. Levels, falls and drainage all need to be right, especially on the flatter, wetter ground you find in parts of Norfolk. See Patios.

Driveways. Front gardens turned over to parking, or a worn drive replaced. Access and existing services need checking first. See Driveways.

Fencing. Boundary replacement after storms, or new fencing as part of a wider garden project. See Fencing.

Lawns and turfing. New turf, reshaped lawns, or tired grass lifted and replaced. See Lawns and turfing.

Full garden design. Where the whole plot is being rethought rather than patched. See Garden design.

Planting and borders. Norfolk soil varies a lot over short distances, so planting choices depend on where you are. See Planting and borders.

Tree work and pruning. Overgrown boundaries, shading, and trees that have outgrown the space. See Tree surgery and pruning.

Ponds. New ponds and existing ones brought back into shape. See Garden ponds.

Ongoing maintenance. Once a garden is built, it needs keeping. See Garden maintenance.

The full list is on our Services page.

How local knowledge changes the job

Norfolk isn't one soil type. You can move a few miles and go from free-draining sandy ground to heavy clay that holds water all winter. That affects planting, lawn preparation, and how you build a patio base so it doesn't sink or pool.

Exposure matters too. Gardens closer to the coast and on open ground take more wind, which changes what plants will cope and how fencing needs to be fixed. In the city, shade from buildings and mature trees is usually the bigger factor.

We look at all of this on site rather than guessing from a photo. It's the difference between a garden that still looks right in three years and one that needs redoing.

Access, parking and how we plan around it

In Norwich, parking and skip placement can be the trickiest part of a project. Permits, narrow streets and shared access all need sorting before work starts, not on the morning of day one.

We talk this through at the quote stage. If materials have to be barrowed a long way, or a machine can't get in, that changes the method and the timescale, and we'd rather say so up front.

Not sure if we cover your postcode?

Just ask. If you're a little outside the areas listed, it's still worth a call, because it often depends on the size and type of the job rather than the distance alone. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so plainly.

You can see examples of finished work in our Gallery, read what customers have said on our Reviews page, or find out more about us on the About page.

Questions people ask

Do you charge extra to travel outside Norwich?
It depends on the distance and the size of the job. We'll tell you at the quote stage whether travel affects the price, so there are no surprises later.
Which villages around Norwich do you cover?
We regularly work in places such as Wymondham, Hethersett, Cringleford, Drayton, Taverham, Hellesdon, Costessey, Sprowston, Poringland, Brundall, Blofield and Acle, along with the villages between them. If your village isn't listed, give us a call and we'll let you know.
Can you work in a small city garden with no rear access?
Yes. Plenty of Norwich gardens are only reachable through the house or a narrow side gate, and we plan the method and materials around that. We'll check access on the site visit before quoting.
How do I get a quote?
Call us on 07711916180 or use our contact page with your location and a short description of the work. We'll arrange a visit to look at the garden before giving you a price.
